August 1 – Is the fourth born child to parents Mona Lisa and Jan Strålman in Tibro a small Swedish town of 8,000 residents, located between the country’s two largest inland water masses – Lake Vänern and Lake Vättern.
2001
October 10 – 15-year-old Strålman plays in his first TV-Pucken tournament game for Västergötland, which defeated Uppland, 3-2, in the tourney opener for both district teams.
2004
March 17 – In his first career game in the Kval Södra till Allsvenskan – or post-season – Strålman helps Skövde IK to a 5-1 win over Skåre BK. He assisted on the game-winning goal scored by Andreas Elofsson at 9:59 of the first period.
March 21 – Despite Strålman’s two-goal effort, including an unassisted tally, Skövde IK drops a 4-3 playoff decision to HC Örebro 90 at Vinterstadion.
March 25 – Five different skaters scored, including Strålman to help Skövde IK to a 6-0 victory over IFK Kumla at Billingehov. It was Strålman’s third post-season goal of his career.
September 15 – Plays in his first Allsvenskan Södra game for Skövde IK and scores a power-play goal and adds an assist in a 3-0 win over Mörrums GoIS IK. Strålman is paired with defenseman Oscar Jansson.
October 1 – Strålman scores the first two goals in an 8-4 victory over Huddinge IK at Billingehov. Both first-period tallies came on power-plays.
October 29 – At 5:49 of the third period, Strålman scored a power-play goal to give Skövde IK a 3-2 win over Huddinge IK at Björkängshallen.
2005
March 28 – In the Kval Södra till Allsvenskan – or post-season – Strålman gets an assist in a Skövde’s 3-2 win over IF Troja/Ljungby at Sunnerbohov. Strålman and Kristofer Persson assisted on a first-period goal by Timo Hakanen at 12:47.
April 2 – Strålman scores his first 2005 post-season goal of the in a 4-2 win over AIK at Billingehov. His goal at 6:44 gave Skövde IK a 1-0 lead in the first period.
April 4 – He signs a two-year agreement to play for Timra IK in Elitserien, otherwise known as the Swedish Elite League.
July 30 – He was picked by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the seventh, and final round, of the NHL’s post-lockout draft at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa, Ontario.
September 26 – Strålman makes his Elitserien debut for Timrå IK in a 3-2 win over Djurgårdens IF. Strålman, who is held scoreless in the game, is paired with Mats Hansson as a defensive partner.
October 29 – In Game 15 of the Elitserien season, Strålman records his first point of the 2005-06 campaign, assisting on Kent Manderville’s first-period goal, en route to a 2-1 win over Djurgårdens IF.
November 1 – Strålman collects an assist in his second straight game for Timrå IK. Despite the defenseman’s effort, they lost a 5-2 decision to Södertälje SK at E.ON Arena.
December 6 – Strålman scores his lone goal of the Elitserien regular-season. The empty-net goal, with 19-seconds left in the third period capped a 3-1 victory over Färjestads BK before 4,444 fans at E.ON Arena.
December 26 – Strålman plays in his first international game – a preliminary round game against Russia in the 2006 IIHF World Junior Championship in British Columbia, Canada. Strålman’s first-period hooking penalty led to a Russian goal and a 3-0 deficit for Sweden. Russia won, 5-1.
2006
January 4 – Strålman collects his first career international point, assisting on Nicklas Backstrom’s empty-net goal with 48-seconds left in a 3-1 win over Czechoslovakia in the 2006 IIHF World Junior Championship at GM Place in Vancouver, British Columbia.
January 20 – He finishes third in Elitserien Rookie of the Year voting.
September 19 – In the 2006-07 season opener, Strålman gets an assist in a 3-0 win over MODO Hockey in front of 5,800 fans at E.ON Arena. He assisted on Peter Regin’s goal that gave Timrå IK a 2-0 lead at 13:43 of the second period.
September 28 – Strålman’s first career Elitserien multi-point game results in a 4-2 victory for Timrå IK. Strålma had a power-play goal and assisted on Riku Hahl’s man-advantage tally that helped down Mora IK in front of 5,024 fans at E.ON Arena.
October 14 – Strålman’s third-period, power-play goal proved to be the game-winner for Timrå IK, who defeated Skellefteå AIK, 2-1 before 5,075 fans at Skellefteå Kraft Arena.
December 2 – Timrå IK drops a 6-3 decision to Skellefteå AIK, despite the two-point effort by Strålman, who had a goal and assist for his second career multi-point game.
December 21 – For the second time in a month, Strålman powers the offense for Timrå IK, scoring a goal and adding an assist in a 6-6 tie with HV-71. It is his third career multi-point game.
2007
January 20 – Five different skaters, including Strålman, scored in Timrå’s 5-0 victory over Djurgårdens IF. His power-play goal at 14:00 of the first period gave Timrå a 2-0 lead.
February 28 – Strålman scores his first career overtime goal, lifting Timrå IK to a 1-0 win over Färjestads BK. His game-winner came with a man-advantage at 3:19 of OT with Färjestads defenseman Robert Kantor serving a two-minute minor for roughing.
May 2 – Strålman scores his first international goal in the 2007 World Championship in Arena Khodynka in Moscow, Russia. His first-period power-play goal gave Sweden a 2-0 lead in an eventual 6-0 win over Switzerland.
May 13 – In the Bronze Medal Game of the 2007 World Championship, Strålman assists on Alex Steen’s power-play goal in the third period. But it wasn’t enough to overcome Russia, who prevailed 3-1 in front of their home crowd.
May 16 – It’s announced that Strålman has signed a three-year contract to play in the NHL with the Maple Leafs.
June 7 – Strålman and his high school sweetheart, Johanna Allert, celebrate the birth of their first child, a daughter, Liv.
October 6 – Strålman makes his North American debut with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. Strålman finishes with a +1 rating, a shot on goal and a minor penalty (hooking) in the Marlies’ 4-1 win over Rochester at Toronto’s Ricoh Coliseum.
October 23 – Logged 14:27 of ice-time, and collects his first NHL penalty (hooking) in his Maple Leafs debut, a 5-4 shootout loss to the Atlanta Thrashers at Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
2008
January 10 – Collected his first NHL point, assisting on Nik Antropov’s second-period goal in a 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center.
January 28 – Played in the AHL All Star Game in Binghamton, N.Y., suiting up for the PlanetUSA team in a 9-8 shootout loss the Canadian All Stars.
March 21 – Scores his first NHL goal at 8:27 of the second period in a 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres. He also assisted on Matt Stajan’s third-period goal. It’s Strålman’s first multi-point NHL game.
March 29 – Strålman scores a pair of second-period goals in a 4-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens at Air Canada Centre. It’s Strålman’s first career multi-goal game, and his second multi-point effort.
May 8 – Strålman registers his first career multi-point game in international competition with a goal and an assist in Sweden’s 8-1 win over Denmark in the 2008 World Championship at Colisee Pepsi in Quebec City.
May 10 – In the first period of a game against Russia, Strålman and Igor Kovalchuk each received five-minute roughing majors and 20-minute game-misconduct penalties for a skirmish between the two NHL stars. Russia won 3-2.
May 11 – Strålman strikes first with a first-period goal in Sweden’s 5-3 win over Czechoslovakia in the 2008 IIHF World Championship. He finished with a plus-2 rating and three shots on goal in 24 shifts.
May 16 – He scores a pair of goals, including one with a man-advantage in a 2008 World Championship quarterfinal game against Canada. The host team won when with 67-seconds left, Canadian defenseman Mike Green scored on a 5-on-3 power-play.
May 18 – Strålman, Mattias Weinhandl and Tony Martensson were named Team Sweden’s Three Best Players during the 2008 IIHF World Championship in Quebec City.
October 23 – Scores his first NHL career game-winning goal when he beat Boston goalie Tim Thomas at 10:46 of the third period of the Maple Leafs’ 4-2 win over the Bruins at TD Bank Garden.
2009
April 29 – Strålman had an assist, two shots on goal with a plus-1 rating in a 5-4 loss to Team USA in the 2009 World Championship at PostFinance Arena in Bern, Switzerland.
April 30 – Strålman scored his lone goal of the 2009 World Championship in a 6-5 loss to Russia in a preliminary round game at PostFinance Arena.
May 3 – Strålman picked up an assist on Johan Harju’s second-period power-play goal in Sweden’s 4-1 victory over Switzerland in the 2009 IIHF World Championship.
May 4 – Strålman collected two assists on goals by forward Kristian Huselius and defenseman Kenny Jonsson in a 6-3 win over France in the 2009 IIHF World Championship.
May 10 – Along with his Team Sweden teammates, Strålman wins a bronze medal after the Swedes posted a 4-2 win over the United States in the 2009 World Championship in Switzerland.
July 27 – Traded to the Calgary Flames with forward Colin Stuart and a seventh-round draft pick in 2012 for forward Wayne Primeau and a second-round choice in 2011.
September 19 – Strålman and his longtime girlfriend, Johanna Allert, welcome their second child, a son, Lowve, to the family.
September 28 – Though he never played a regular-season game in a Flames’ uniform, he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a third-round draft pick in 2010 (Canadian center Maxwell Reinhart, No. 64 overall).
October 8 – Makes his Blue Jackets debut, logging 19-minutes of ice-time in a 6-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks at the HP Pavilion.
October 13 – In his first Blue Jackets’ game in front of the home crowd at Nationwide Arena, Strålman scores his first goal of the season in a 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames.
October 19 – During a road trip back to Calgary, Strålman married his high school sweet heart, Johanna Allert, in a small ceremony in the couple’s apartment. Columbus general manager Scott Howson was Strålman’s best man, and Julie Gamble, the club’s manager of team services and travel secretary, was the unofficial maid of honor.
November 4 – Despite assisting on goals by Jason Chimera and Rick Nash, the Blue Jackets drop a 3-2 shootout decision to the San Jose Sharks at Nationwide Arena.
November 16 – Scores a goal and an assist in the Blue Jackets’ 3-2 shootout win over the Edmonton Oilers at Nationwide Arena. It’s Strålman third multi-point game of his NHL career.
November 21 – Strålman’s power-play goal with 58-seconds left in regulation forces overtime in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena. He also had an assist on a second-period goal by R.J. Umberger, giving Strålman his fourth multi-point game of his career.
November 24 – Strålman collected his fifth career multi-point game, scoring a power-play goal and added an assist in a 5-3 loss to the Canadiens at Montreal’s Molson Centre
2010
January 19 – Collects a pair of power-play assists in the Blue Jackets’ 5-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers at Wachovia Center. It’s Strålman’s sixth career multi-point game in the NHL.
January 21 – For the fourth straight game, Strålman collects at least one point. On this date, he assisted on R.J. Umberger’s game-winner in a 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins at TD Banknorth Garden.
February 6 – It’s Strålman’s seventh career multi-point effort, scoring a goal with an assist in a 4-0 victory over the Buffalo Sabres at Nationwide Arena.
February 14 – Strålman drops the gloves for the first time in his NHL career, fighting Chicago enforcer Troy Brouwer in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Chicago Blackhawks at Nationwide Arena. The fight followed a clean open-ice by Strålman on Blackhawks center Patrick Kane. For his involvement, Brouwer received 19-minutes in penalties, including one for instigating.
July 28 – The Blue Jackets avoid arbitration with Strålman when they sign the defenseman to a one-year contract.
